New York CE Requirements

Resident Requirements

All licensees (producers, brokers, consultants, adjuster) must complete 15 hours of CE credit every 2 years in the line in which the license is held.

Licensees holding more than one license (LH & PC) must complete 30 hours of CE with 15 hours in each line category (LH & PC). Bridge courses can be taken to satisfy both lines.

You should not repeat any course already reported for CE credit. Beginning with licenses renewing on or after February 1, 2009 you will no longer be able to renew your license if reporting a course that was completed in an earlier licensing period.

Licensees must maintain records of completed continuing education courses and will be held responsible if a course is repeated.

This state has issued a notice reminding licensees who sell flood insurance of their requirement to comply with the minimum training requirements established FEMA and the Natl. Flood Insurance Program.

Beginning with licenses renewing on or after February 1, 2009 you will no longer be able to renew your license if reporting a course that was completed in an earlier licensing period.

Long-Term Care Training

Licensed producers who will sell New York State Long-Term Care Partnership insurance after 4/1/05 must complete a one-time 8 hour training course prior to selling LTCP policies.

Non Resident Requirements

Non-resident producers are exempt from CE, however, non-residents are not exempt from the LTCP requirement.

Proctor/Monitor Requirements

Print Requirements

A state-approved monitor must monitor the exam and the exam must be closed book. Make an appointment and bring 2 pieces of photo identification (preferably your drivers license and producer/broker license) Give the monitor the sealed exam envelope. The monitor completes the Declaration of Compliance on the back of the answer sheet, includes a copy of his or her current monitor approval document along with the monitor affidavit, and forwards all exam materials to Kaplan. For a list of approved monitors, check the NY DOI's website. Please note that monitors may charge a fee for this service.

Online Requirements

A state-approved monitor must monitor the online exam and the online exam must be closed book. Make an appointment and bring 2 pieces of photo identification (preferably your driver's license and producer/broker license). For a list of approved monitors, check the NY DOI's website. The monitor must complete the monitor affidavit before the exam is launched. Once the exam is completed, the monitor must verify his or her information and confirm that the student has completed the exam with no outside assistance. Upon exam completion, the monitor will submit the materials which, in turn, will be electronically transmitted to Kaplan Financial. Please note that monitors may charge a fee for this service.

Reporting Requirements

Report within 30 days of completion. Need last four digits of Agent's SSN and full license number to report. Weekly reporting.

Period Criteria Requirements

After your license has been renewed the first time, continuing education (CE) will always be required upon subsequent renewal or relicensing applications. Credits must be accumulated during the renewal period, which begins with the effective date of the license. CE must be completed before processing the renewal or relicensing application

Carryover Criteria Requirements

Carryover of CE hours is not permitted. By statute, fifteen (15) new and different CE credits must be earned during each licensing period.

Course Repetition

Course repetition is not permitted.
