Illinois CE Requirements

Resident Requirements

Effective 1/1/10, the Illinois Department of Insurance will reduce the credit hours of all Illinois courses previously approved for 15 hours of CE credit to 12 hours of CE credit. If you have enrolled in a 15 hour course prior to 1/1/10, but have completed the course on or after 1/1/10, you will only receive 12 hours of CE credit.

Effective January 01, 2010, all resident producers who will renew on or after January 01, 2010 will be required to complete 24 hours of CE; three (3) of the 24 hours must consist of classroom ethics.

Long-Term Care Training

There is a new training requirement for resident producers who sell or solicit any type of Long Term Care Insurance.

Resident producers are required to take a specific course entitled, "Long Term Care (Partnership)", with a specific course number of 25008. This course is an eight (8) hour credit course that can be applied to a producer's continuing education requirement. Upon completion of this course you will be presented with a certificate of completion, retain the original certificate for your records as the Division will not have a permanent record of this required course. You will be required to provide companies a copy of the certificate as evidence of your completion of this course.

Producers who are already licensed and have completed LTC course 09400 prior to July 01, 2008 will have one year from July 01, 2008 to complete the new required course 25008. Further, the producer is required to complete no less than four (4) continuing education hours of Long Term Care for each renewal period. Should Illinois become a Long Term Care Partnership state, these new requirements will satisfy education requirements for selling partnership policies.

Non-Resident producers who satisfy the LTC Partnership Program requirement in their state shall be deemed to satisfy the training requirements in this State.

Non Resident Requirements

With the exception of LTC, nonresidents are exempt from continuing education in Illinois.

State Reporting Fees

ATTENTION: Effective July 26, 2010, The IL Department of Insurance will require a course reporting fee of $1.00 per credit hour (online, self-study and classroom courses). This state reporting fee will be automatically charged to you (on the credit card used to place your order) each time you complete an online, self-study, or classroom course.

Reporting Requirements

Report within 10 days of completion. Need Agent's SSN to report. Weekly reporting.

Period Criteria Requirements

Illinois resident licensees must complete their CE requirements by the license issuance date every two years.

Carryover Criteria Requirements

Effective 1/1/2010: A maximum of 12 hours may be carried over to the next compliance period. Ethics may not be carried over.

Course Repetition

Courses may not be repeated within a 2 year period.
